‘Twas the night before Cat Day and near SF Bay
Not a kitty was stirring at Cat Town Cafe

The cats were all draped on the cat trees with care
In hope that their adopters soon would be there

The kittens were snoozing all snug in their beds
While visions of families danced in their heads

Two cats who had been there for a very long time
Up to their nighttime perches were about to climb

When what to their wondering eyes did arrive
But a Miniature Schnauzer with love in her eyes!

Her ears were so perky, and her voice strong and true,
As she told them, “I’m Maddie! I’m here to help you!”

She walked round the cafe, distributing toys
Catnip and lasers to the cat girls and boys

She snuggled! She tickled! She ran all around!
She called them all by name, and then sat right down

Maddie opened a sack that she’d left near the door
And then with a thump, she set it right on the floor

“This will let people meet you,” she said with a wag
And pulled a shiny webcam from out of her bag!

And as quick as a wink she had it set up,
Wired and running — that was one clever pup!

She winked at the kittens, and nose-bumped the cats,
And put even more toys on all of their mats

“I’ll be back tomorrow,” she said, “without fail.”
And she whisked out the door with a wag of her tail!

So when National Cat Day dawns with the sun
Be sure you’re tuned in to join in all the fun!

Because Maddie can tell you, true as the day
There’s nothing more wonderful than kitties at play

Unless it’s the love that they will bring to your home
When you adopt one (or two!) and make them your own!
