If you love cats and want to see U.S. animal shelters save more of them, be sure they know Maddie’s Fund® has $1,000 for them if they join the Million Cat Challenge!

The Million Cat Challenge was founded by Dr. Julie Levy of the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program at the University of Florida and Dr. Kate Hurley of the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. It helps shelters save more cats by improving care, reducing intake, helping community cats, and increasing adoptions. Only two years into the five-year Challenge, participating shelters have already saved more than half a million cats!

From April 29-May 31, 2016, Maddie’s Fund will give a grant of $1,000 to any qualifying U.S. shelter that will commit to saving more cats and using at least one of the Challenge’s five initiatives.

To qualify, shelters must:

  • Be located in the U.S.
  • Handle cats
  • Have a physical location open to the public for cat adoptions
  • Provide three simple data points for the period of the Challenge, plus one baseline year
  • Join the Million Cat Discussion group
  • Register between April 29-May 31, 2016

So get on the phone, send an email, or write a letter to your local shelter and make sure they’re part of the Million Cat Challenge!

And if by chance they’re already in the Challenge (almost 400 shelters are!), they can still get in on the cash by referring other shelters to join the Challenge, too — they’ll earn $500 for each qualifying shelter that meets all the requirements before the end of May!

Get more information and tell them they can sign up at www.millioncatchallenge.org.
