When a young, adorable, petite cat named Disney arrives at a shelter, it wouldn’t seem too far-fetched to think she’d get adopted right away. Who can resist a feline Disney princess?

Turns out lots of people could and did. Just like in a Disney movie, this kitty had some big obstacles to overcome before she found her happily-ever-after. At approximately six months old, she arrived at a local shelter weighing only four pounds. Along with being underweight, she was tiny but mighty, and made it very clear she wasn’t a fan of other cats. So what’s a girl to do to get her fairy-tail ending?

Bibbity-bobbity-boo, Maddie to the rescue! Disney was placed in the Maddie’s Fund foster program and it worked like magic. She became a leading lady, purring the minute you looked at or petted her. And did she love to cuddle? You bet! She’d also stay in your lap for as long as you’d let her. As for her weight, she was treated for an internal parasite and soon started to put on a few much-needed pounds.

What happened next? Within a few short days after being in a foster home, Disney got her happy ending! When Richard and Royanne Tubman met her, it was love at first sight. “She locked eyes with me and walked right into my lap. That was it for me,” said Tubman. She is now the queen of their castle.

“We had been wanting a pet for some time, and had been checking out rescue shelters on the weekends, looking for the right fit for our personalities and our lifestyle.” Needless to say, they found their match.

One year later, they’re still obsessed, and treat her like the princess she is. “She has been such a special addition to our lives, and we’ve become completely obsessed with her – sleeping with her, taking her on road trips with us, and generally cuddling her until she can’t stand it,” Tubman said. “We can’t thank you enough for introducing her to us!”

Even better, they want to help more animals like Disney, eagerly offering to foster or volunteer.

“For us, adoption was always the only option. We know enough to know that there are so many sweet animals out there that need homes, and the adoption community is one we want to support.”
