Mr. Randall and Maddie

It’s a reality that is far too common. An owner relinquishes a pet because they cannot afford the costs associated with caring for a pet.

David Randall surrendered his comfort dog, Maddie, to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) because she needed costly surgery that he couldn’t afford. Randall, who is also a veteran, left her in tears, assuming she would be euthanized. He eventually learned that they performed the surgery on her and it was a success. He was elated. And he wanted her back and he would do anything to be together again.

Julie Crosby, Veterinary Services Manager of HSPPR saw that Maddie wasn’t happy with them, and said they were going to do what they could do to get them back together. And that’s exactly what happened.

“You brought her back, and you made me whole again,” said Randall in a voicemail to HSPPR.
