Do you ever look at cool infographics, shareable memes, and other creative visuals on animal organizations’ blogs and social media, and wish you could do something just as good? You can.

Three simple tools — one web-based and two apps — can turn the most graphically inept person into a design genius. And as images and graphics increasingly dominate social media, these tools or others like them are increasingly indispensable.

1. Canva allows users to build graphics tailored for Facebook, Pinterest and other social sites, as well as infographics. For animal adoption organizations that have an unlimited supply of adorable pet photos, the free version of Canva is all you need to create professional-looking graphics in just a few minutes. Sign up at www.canva.com.

2. Overgram is an iPhone app that lets you quickly and attractively add text and other design elements to Instagram photos (although you can save the images and use them elsewhere, too). For example, you can add a pet’s name, and a hashtag or very short URL. It’s free and easy to use, but to remove some limitations, you’ll need to upgrade to Over, the paid version, which will set you back $1.99. Both are available in the App Store. Get more information on Overgram at http://overgram.com/, and Over at http://madewithover.com/.

3. Pic Stitch is an app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that allows you to create photo collages that can then be shared to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can use many different layouts to display multiple views of a single pet, or multiple pets, in one graphic. Learn more at http://bigblueclip.com/portfolio/pic-stitch.
