Can you market feral cats and get more of them into permanent, appropriate living situations? You bet!
Dr. Susan Krebsbach of Dane County Friends of Ferals in Wisconsin, recently wrote a guest post about how Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days enabled them to place so many feral cats that they ended up with a waitling list of people who wanted them.
One of the questions you asked was how the organization marketed their ferals, so we asked Dr. Krebsbach. Here’s what she had to say:
For this year’s Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, the Dane County Friends of Ferals (DCFoF) contacted previous feral cat adopters (who live in rural locations) and asked if they wanted to adopt more cats and/or if they knew of neighbors who would be interested in adopting some feral cats.
Year-round we market the feral cats in a number of different ways.
1) Advertising in local newspapers (especially rural newspapers)
2) Posters in businesses that cater to farm communities (e.g., large animal veterinary clinics, feed supply stores, farm implement stores, etc.)
3) Presenting at rural community meetings
4) Providing information about feral cat adoptions on the DCFoF website.
In addition, over the years we have increased our adoption pool just through word-of-mouth.
We hope that inspired you!
