Have you ever shared a pet who needed a home on social media, or asked someone else to? Ever wonder what ended up happening with the pet you were trying to help?

Few things keep us going like knowing we’re making a difference for animals, so in celebration of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, Maddie’s Fund® is sharing a few happy stories of where pets who found homes in the last year are now. Thanks to all the social-sharers, fosters, volunteers and adopters who made it possible — and of course, #ThanksToMaddie!

Tulip

Tulip came to us with a fractured rear leg splinted at the shelter for six weeks. She had a laceration caused by the splint and other bandage sores.

We placed her in a foster home and provided surgery to repair her leg. She healed quickly and immediately became a happy puppy who absolutely loved her foster family, especially their dog, Sophia. The feeling was mutual, and the foster family adopted her — and they still foster for us!

Potato

Potato had been at the shelter with a fractured front leg for three months and came to us with multiple sores, draining tracts and an abscess on his face. His leg was infected with MRSA, an antibiotic- resistant bacteria. There was also ligament damage, and the normal weight-bearing bone was atrophied from the infection.

After his leg was amputated, Potato healed quickly and was adopted by his foster family a few weeks later. He now lives in a home becoming fast friends with another dog and is enjoying life as a tripawd.
