Haven’t submitted your Innovation Grant application yet? Don’t worry – there’s still time! But hurry, you only have until Monday, August 28. As a reminder, we’re offering up to $5,000 to implement a new program, or expand an existing program, at your shelter or rescue organization that will advance lifesaving. This round will be even more exciting as we’ve doubled the amount we’re giving away, totaling $500,000.

“We gave out about 20 more grants this round than prior rounds, which is a testament to all the great, lifesaving work happening,” said Kelly Clardy, Senior Grants Specialist at Maddie’s Fund®. “It is exciting to see innovative and progressive ideas spreading around the country.”
More than 300 applications were submitted, and over 90 were awarded grants, including one to the American Humane Association, which is training shelter dogs to be service dogs for veterans. “They’re not only saving the life of a shelter dog, but also helping a veteran,” said Clardy.
Another standout was the Humane Society of Charles County. “They’re providing a network of support to the families of hospice patients, helping to take care of the patients’ animals. Trained volunteers will provide pet feeding, walking, litter box maintenance, grooming and transport service as needed, so that the animals can stay with their people as long as possible, and the hospice patients don’t have to surrender their animals to a shelter.”
Clardy also reminds applicants about the importance of double-checking your application before turning it in, and making sure you’re eligible. “If you have a question about something on the application, be sure to ask us before the deadline.”
