It’s safe to say there’s no shortage of innovation in the animal welfare industry, as over 100 organizations across the country received an Innovation Grant during the October 2018 cycle.
“People have really embraced this idea of thinking outside-the-box to save lives, and it’s showing on their applications!” said Kelly Clardy, Senior Grants Specialist at Maddie’s Fund. “It’s exciting to see both new and previous recipients on this list.”
Daisy’s Hope Foundation, in California, is providing free wellness kits for pet owners through a pet food pantry. These will be provided to low-income residents, seniors and veterans and will include items like chewable vitamins/supplements, flea combs, nail clippers, brush and pet stain remover.
Over in North Dakota, Cats Cradle Shelter is starting a program that allows guardians to volunteer with their organization to help pay off medical care for their animals.
Metro East Humane Society in Illinois is partnering with Madison County Animal Care and Control and their local Sanitary District to pull impounded feral cats from the shelter and relocating them to the river levees to provide an environmentally-friendly solution to the rodent problem there.
