Maddie’s^® Shelter Compass was created by Dr. Mike Greenberg, Maddie’s Fund Director of Outreach Programs. As a shelter veterinarian and former director of Target Zero, Dr. Greenberg wanted to create a tool to help shelters reduce intake and increase efficiency and live outcomes. “It’s easier to be successful when you have a clear goal,” he says. “This will make your job easier by helping you focus on the programs that’ll give you the most impact.”

If you’re already a member of Shelter Animals Count, this will be super simple for you. Be sure to have at least 12 months of Shelter Animals Count data; ideally you’ll want data up to the current month to get the most accurate picture of your shelter. If you’re not on Shelter Animals Count (and you should be!), you’ll need to manually enter your data, but it’s still super easy.
