Introducing a brand new webcast series, Maddie’s® Insights. Starting on Thursday, September 8, at 12:00PM / 3:00PM ET, these monthly webcasts will provide practical tips based on current research to help pets and people. Maddie’s Fund® Director of Outreach and Research, Sheila Segurson, DVM, DACVB will host this 60 minute webcast.
“It’s pretty common that really valuable information is gained from research, but that research is either published in a journal that people don’t see or the information is challenging to digest because it’s written for a scientific audience. This webcast series addresses this issue,” Dr. Segurson shared. “We’ll be meeting with research scientists and learning about their work, most importantly learning about practical tips and recommendations for how we can apply what they’ve learned in a real world setting. Our focus will be on research about behavior, well-being and foster care; however, anything that is interesting and valuable to our work will be considered.”
Maddie’s® Insights will kick off with, “What Laboratory Studies May Tell Us About Stress in a Dog Shelter.” Dr. Michael Hennessy, Professor of Psychology, Wright State University and Regina Willen, Founder & Director at HALO K9 Behavior will discuss how basic scientific research informs our understanding of the stress dogs undergo in a shelter environment. They will examine immediate effects of entry to a shelter as well as potential long-term consequences.
Future topics include “Social Pain in Dogs” on October 6 and “Emergency Fostering During the Pandemic – Takeaways for a Post-pandemic World” on November 3.
