The Humane Society of the United States Animal Care Expo 2023 will be in New Orleans, Louisiana, April 3-6!

The annual conference will have nearly 100 sessions, with a select number being live-streamed this year. If you’re making the trip to Louisiana this year, you won’t want to miss the following sessions, sponsored by Maddie’s Fund. Additionally, Maddie’s Fund® will be sponsoring this year’s Marketing & Fundraising track.

On Monday, April 3 at 3:30PM, Dr. Jyothi Robertson will be giving the keynote address. Dr. Robertson is an internationally recognized veterinary consultant boarded in shelter medicine, and a founder of a nonprofit program that explores interdependence and contemplative practices. Her areas of interest in shelter medicine include increasing access to veterinary care, shelter operations, organizational design, and the mental wellbeing of all engaged in this work.

On Tuesday, April 4 from 2:00-3:15PM, join Elijah Brice-Middleton and Sheila Kouhkan for “Community-centric programs: Building support for your mission.” They will discuss how to make connections, build partnerships, and share a message that resonates to those in your community.

On Wednesday, April 5 from 4:15-5:30PM join Jasmine Bell, Bobby Mann and Kourtney Hudson, all from Humane Rescue Alliance, for “Practical solutions to diversify your organization through data and strategy.” This session will discuss the necessity to diversify staff, gain cultural competence and partner with other community-led affinity organizations.

On Thursday, April 6 from 9:45-11am, Diaz Dixon and Kirsten Peek will present on “Engaging with the media to save lives.” This session will establish best practices for shelters and rescues when engaging with the media and explore crisis communication tools you can use to bounce back from disappointing coverage.
