As the year winds down, nonprofits everywhere are gearing up for one of the most important fundraising seasons. From Giving Tuesday to holiday drives, animal shelters and foster-based organizations are finding new, heartfelt ways to engage their communities – and they’re sharing their best ideas in the “October + November 2025 Giveaway: Share your end-of-year fundraising strategies!” thread on Maddie’s Pet Forum.
Here are just a few fundraising ideas being discussed:
Make it personal. Organizations have found success with targeted fundraising — highlighting specific animals or medical needs so donors know exactly where their contributions are going. “People want to know how their money is being used,” shared Megan Schwarz from 10 Lives NY, noting how they have used foster spotlights on social media. You can also personalize after the donation has been made. ROSES (Reducing Overpopulation: Spay/Neuter Education & Support) in Texas is mailing out thank-you postcards to donors and volunteers, while also partnering with local businesses for creative events like a fundraising night at a cidery — complete with a honey cider made by one of their fosters!
Turn giving into community fun. Pet Pals in Missouri is hosting “Furr-ific Bingo,” where every game supports animals moving from the streets to loving homes. Similarly, Sweet Paws Rescue’s annual “Barktoberfest” combines local vendors, music, and raffles.
Think outside the donation box. From placing community donation barrels for unhoused pet owners to buying discounted pet items for silent auction baskets, organizations are getting creative with where and how they collect donations.
Join the conversation! Share your own end-of-year fundraising strategies (and get inspired by others!) in the Maddie’s Pet Forum discussion.
