In just two short weeks, from April 19-22, some of us will be reuniting for the first time in two-plus years at Animal Care Expo!

To say we are excited and a little nervous (socializing, what’s that?), is an understatement. The conference, hosted by the Humane Society of the United States, is jam-packed with must-sees. And if you are unable to make it to Orlando, FL this year, there is a virtual component at well.

But for those making journey to Florida, we hope you have earmarked a couple of things:

On Tuesday, April 19 at 3:30 PM ET, Dr. Lila Miller, the “mother of shelter medicine,” will be giving the keynote speech. Dr. Miller will reflect on her 42 years as a shelter veterinarian, all which was spent at the ASPCA.

On Wednesday, April 20 at 2 PM ET, our own Dr. Sheila Segurson, Director of Research, will be presenting at the session, Trauma-informed sheltering: Sheltering and rehabilitating traumatized animals using a holistic, cooperative approach.

Maddie’s Fund^® will also be back with a booth! We’re going back-to-basics this year and keeping our space simple. Everyone is welcome, whether you are looking for a safe space to talk about complex issues or just want to share your latest fostering success story.

And at our booth will be Dr. Michael J. Blackwell, Avanzino Leadership Award recipient in 2020. Currently serving as the Director of the Program for Pet Health Equity, College of Social Work, at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Blackwell also chairs the Access to Veterinary Care Coalition. He will be at our booth all week to answer any questions you may have, and will also be on-hand to introduce Dr. Miller for her keynote.
