Will people adopt a one-eyed hard luck pet? And what kind of adoption group places a Siberian Husky who’s already been returned by one adopter… into a new home in an apartment?
The answers are “You bet!” to the first, and “We did!” to the second.
In celebration of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, here are their “Where are they now?” stories — happy endings included!
Maxi-Ann
Maxi-Ann had severe eye troubles when she came to us needing cherry eye surgery for her right eye. She also had glaucoma in her left eye, which was very painful and left her with very little vision.
We removed her left eye, and she had the cherry eye surgery, healing like a champ. Maxi-Ann was adopted within a month of her surgery and is living the dream with her new family! Who says people won’t adopt treatable pets?
Buzz
Buzz, adopted within two weeks, was returned six weeks later due to a family member’s allergies.
Unfazed, he flaunted his stellar personality, flashed those baby blues, and was adopted five days later by a couple who had been wanting a Husky but couldn’t find a rescue group who would adopt to them because they live in an apartment.
After speaking with them, we found they were extremely active and wanted a dog that could keep up with them. Buzz has been a perfect fit and is getting plenty of exercise and love in his new home! Who says you shouldn’t break the rules?
There can never be too many happy adoption stories, especially during Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! These come with our thanks to the army of volunteers and rescuers who worked so hard to make sure Maxi-Ann and Buzz had their happily ever after! And of course, #ThanksToMaddie, too!
