Did your true love prove elusive this past Valentine’s Day? Don’t worry! There’s somewhere you can go to find 100 percent guaranteed unconditional love!
This magical place? TheShelterPetProject.org.
Skeptical? Who can blame you? We live in a cynical age. Fortunately, dogs and cats are never cynical, and will manage to deploy the power of #ShelterPetLove to remind you that the heart trumps cynicism every time.
If you’re still not convinced, who better to set you straight than people who found their true love at a shelter or rescue group? Millions of people decided to #StartAStoryAdopt, and now proudly shout their stories from the rooftops (of social media, that is).
Take former shelter cat @Richard.kitty, who has his own Twitter and Instagram accounts where his adopter shares his story: “Richard was so scared, having been surrendered to a high-kill shelter here in LA. He was in a cage all alone. I picked him up, he nuzzled into me, and I never let him go.”
Now @Richard.kitty has over 150,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 800 followers on Twitter. True love and social media super-stardom!
Lots of other shelter and rescue group pets have hit the big time: Shelter Pet Project spokespets Keyboard Cat, Hamilton Pug, and Toast Meets World, who have a combined total of more than 1.1 million social media followers, for example. Or special needs cats Elfie and Gimli who have over 137,000 followers on Instagram.
Of course, social media super-stardom isn’t required for a happy ending! Dee Peterson loves all her rescue pets, including Humbug, who told us he has “Zero Instagram followers because mom is too lazy to make him an account.” (We told him that’s okay; all adopted pets are still stars in our eyes!)
Start your very own story by visiting TheShelterPetProject.org today! If you already have a pet adoption story to share, don’t forget to spread the word to help save the lives of millions of dogs and cats using #StartAStoryAdopt.
